Year 2005: Synoptic Overview by Philip Eden
2005 was another warm year, pretty much on a par with the preceding three years. The main features were the exceptionally warm Sept/Oct/early Nov, and the outstandingly sunny Nov/Dec. More available: Charts: http://www.climate-uk.com/monpre/05Q1.htm The mean sea-level chart shows two sub-polar low pressure

A mild first half and cold snowy end. Overall, with a mean of 3.6C and 60.4 mm of precipitation, December was an average month overall. Temperatures ranged from 10.6C on the 11th and 15th to -7.6C on the morning of the 29th. The wettest day was the 30th, with 16.2 mm of snow and sleet. Bitterly cold in the North West (+OT rant!) by Dave.C
.... well according to the Sky football commentator at Ewood Park (Blackburn). It's 5C at Manchester airport - mild I would say for a January night.. We need the equivalent of Private Eye's "Dumb Britain" on here. I'm in my usual bad mood having seen Mylene Classe get 17 out of 18 right on "Sex in the City 3" and 1 out of 20 right on general knowledge on Mastermind. I'm no snob but I detest this...

Today's model interpretation (3/01/06) by Darren Prescott
Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Saturday. Issued 0558, 3 Jan 06. The models continue to show the UK close to the battleground between Continental easterlies and Atlantic SW'lies. Northern and western areas are most at risk of seeing an Atlantic influence, but none of the runs are keen to bring Atlantic air across the rest of the UK. Elsewhere winds will feed chilly...

"Weather Home & Abroad" by Keith (Southend)
A slight change of routine now we enter the New Year. I generally don't intend to do updates during the day on work days, for obvious reasons. The main difference is that the updates for the 'UK & Europe, Africa & China' will now appear in the evening. Australia and Asia should be updated early and America and USA in the evening with the others. I'm hoping the process may become a little...

Well I still stand by it. by lawrence Jenkins
As usual when one vents their spleen there's always the anxious feeling that you've upset someone or that people think you are an absolute idiot. Well reading post again and then seeing some of the responses like "moaning minies" I'm thinking "sod it", like the IRA I'm sticking to my guns. Now I would like to ask this. The 9:30 BBC TV severe weather warning Armageddon slot- was it justified...

Monday, 02 January 2006 BRACKNELL (TAWFIELD) 0900 WNW F2 15km - 6/SC T047D035 RMK: unusual-looking edge to Sc sheet, which runs from ENE-WSW; a ragged, evaporating edge as though there is some sort of micro-scale vertical overturning going on. Some distant Sc to east - where no cloud, then a highly-blue sky (polar type). ]= --
