Odiham sunniest yesterday - 0.0 hrs ! by
Dave Cornwell
If there is a day with zero sunshine how does the Met Office decide on
sunniest place? On the Met Office web site for the London and S.E summary
for last 24 hrs it has Odiham as sunniest with 0.0 hrs. (I'd hate to be
there on a cloudy day!). Is it possible that there was a few minutes in the
morning below the 0.1 hrs resolution quoted making it the sunniest? or does
the computer just pick a...

Cold front 10th/11th November, 2008 by
Martin Rowley
.... the cold front (with minor but potent waves) that crossed us
yesterday is wandering its way across NW Europe - the overnight
rainfall radar returns showed that the 'line convection' element was
particularly fine (for a meteorologist!), though not perhaps if you
were actually underneath it. I've put a simple composite at this
address...

A trough will cross the UK during the weekend, bringing rain for all. The
first half of next week will see a north/south divide, as a zonal flow
affects the UK. In the north there'll be frequent rain, whilst further south
it'll be lighter and patchier.

Brussels on Monday 10th November
Mostly cloudy. A few brighter intervals in the morning and early
afternoon as breaks in the fast-moving low cloud revealed a veil of
high cloud above. Dry most of the time but occasional drizzle and
light rain in the late afternoon and evening. Very mild - fresh SSW
wind which is gusting strong now as I write this at 23.00 Brussels
time.

Met office wind speeds newbie question by
mikeyp
Hi All,
I've been looking at the wind speeds on the Met Office site for the London
area over the next couple of days but am confused about the status of the
wind speeds shown and would really appreciate some help understanding this.
There are often two indicators shown, the mean speed shown in a 'circle'
symbol and, sometimes, a red box directly below showing the speed of gusts.
I'm curious...
