Eskimo Will
Max. -0.8C in sunny skies.
Now at 1700 it is more cloudy with temperature tumbling away at -3.1C.
DP -5.1C.
Bar 1040.7 hPa steady. Naff all wind from the ENE.
All surfaces bone dry, frozen solid and snow-free.
Going to be interesting on Friday close to the warm front wave. Snow or
freezing rain, it just depends. Key difference from last weekend is that
there is no driving low near Iceland...

chance of polar low at T+144? by
Scott W
The MetO FAX chart this morning seems keen on developing an omega high
out in the Atlantic and over Greenland and Iceland. Is this the set-up
needed for a proper polar low to develop?

Freezing Rain by
Col
The local forecast was talking at length about freezing rain
this evening, and how unusual it is, so I am assuming that it
is to be of the genuine 'supercooled' varity, rather than
just 'normal' rain making cold surfaces slippery.
So what makes freezing rain fall at temperatures when
one would normaly expect snow?

Today's model interpretation (9/02/12) by
Darren Prescott[_4_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Monday.
Issued 0447, 9/02/12
A change is on the way. High pressure will migrate westwards over the
weekend, allowing much milder air to affect those parts of the UK which are
currently very cold. All areas will be at risk of rain as fronts move
SE'wards over the UK. The middle of the working week is likely to see a
short-lived NNW'ly flow over...

Watching a pristine layer of snow, slowly melt away before the cold air
returns. All very sad.
Some of you in the SE have my commiserations :-)

Whatever you may think of Dawlish, it's neither funny nor clever to mock
him over the loss of his wife's uncle. Yes, he overreacted to Will's
post, but it was understandable at what must be a time of stress for his
family.

Highest Pressure for some time by
Dave Cornwell[_4_]
According to my AWS yesterday's 1042.4 mb was the highest I have
recorded so at least three years. Does this tie up with others' as I
have seen no mention of it elsewhere.
