Austrian weather by
Nigel
Hi,
Just reporting that our area has weather warnings for snow and strong winds
for tonight and the weekend. Drifting snow in the village will be a new
sight!! There are forecasting between 20 to 30 cm of snow.
Just raining here at the moment but looking at the 2 local webcams there is
plenty of snow up the mountain:-

Today's model interpretation (22/11/08) by
Darren Prescott[_2_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Wednesday.
Issued 0546, 22nd November 2008
The end of the week will see initially mild SW'lies giving way to less mild
conditions as an upper trough extends over the UK. The alignment of the
trough isn't yet certain - ECM shows it to the west, with southerlies over
the UK, while GFS shows it atop the UK, with much colder conditions as a...

[WR] Howhill 081121 by
Dave Liquorice[_2_]
Sharp and sudden hail shower at about 1300 turned to steady powder snow
and lasted a couple of hours. Temp fell from just under 5C to just over 0C
so although the snow settled it soon turned to an inch of slush.
Temp starting to fall again now that darkness has arrived and the skies
cleared a bit.

Cheers
Dave.

Big chill on the way by
Smelly discharge[_2_]
Looking increasingly likely!!-all the major models seem to be pointing in
that direction-of course its rather too early in the season to be talking
about a major cold outbreak and bucketloads of snow-but it certainly bodes
well for the forthcoming winter.
The Scottish sking industry will be jumping for joy no boubt!

Today's model interpretation (21st November) by
Darren Prescott[_2_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Tuesday.
Issued 0518, 21st November 2008
Wednesday will see a ridge move southwards over the UK, heralding a change
to SW'lies for the remainder of the working week. Temperatures will return
to near-normal over England and Wales for a time, with Northern Ireland and
Scotland likely to see temperatures a little below average. Beyond that the...

Main cold arrives later next week by
Will Hand
This brief cold spell starting now will be just a taster for the main and
prolonged event starting next Thursday. As I have said in previous posts the
SST distribution with very warm anomalies in western Atlantic is reinforcing
the longwave pattern we are in now which is one of repeated cold
northerlies. During next week the pattern is expected to retrogress (move
west) allowing the cold...

[WR] Fochabers by
Anne Burgess
After dithering all day, it's finally made up its mind to snow,
and there's a dusting of white lying in the garden and on the
street. A strong westerly wind is blowing it around in eddies,
the sky is dull and grey, and I am very glad to be snug indoors.
