Today's model interpretation (20/08/10) by
Darren Prescott (via Google)
Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon (GMT) on Tuesday.
Issued 0426z, 20/08/10.
The middle of the week will see a NW/SE split, with a low to the north
bringing showers and longer spells of rain especially to the north and
west. Areas further south and east will see much less rain, although
they won't be immune. Temperatures will be average to cool over the
UK.

Red Arrows Day - uncertainty in the forecast for Dawlish. by
Dawlish
Anyone like to have a stab at whether Dawlish will be able to hold its
air carnival on Thursday? "Uncertainty" was the watchword on both the
national and local weather forecast tonight. I'm not hopeful; I think
the rain will be here by lunchtime/early afternoon, but I like the
word "uncertainty and I've got my fingers crossed - I think we'll need
the luck!
It's always a terrific day. Estimates...

Just got down before rain by
Keith (Southend)G
Climbed Great Gable this afternoon with my Son, the clouds were
rapidly gather ing from the SW and the first spots of rain started
while taking pictures next to the cairn on the summit. Not an easy
walk with lots of scree and loose rocks, I landed on my backside many
a time. Now back in Borrowdale and a wet evening has set in :-(
Hoping it will clear through...

Ice bomb! by
Norman[_3_]
I've just had a call from someone in Flash, about 9 miles SW of here. He said a
large lump of ice had just landed about 20 feet from where he was working, with
a noise like a car door slamming. It made a dent several inches deep in the
ground.
No doubt it came from an aircraft that had picked up some icing in the middle
level overcast. The poor fellow was a bit shaken up. As he put it, if it...

Penzance - Worst day of the Summer? by
Graham Easterling[_3_]
Today is in competition, with 1st July, to be the worst day of summer.
Basically dry but dull this morning, just some patchy very light rain.
Decidedly wet & windy this afternoon. A force 5 SSW generally, but it
felt worse in the rain & mist. Temperature mostly around 18C all day,
with the dewpoint 17C.
This evening's Minack production could be the 1st to be cancelled this
year - but it still...

July 2010 ... rainfall across England & Wales by
Martin Rowley
.... This has been mentioned before, but I'm just going through my
monthly summaries for July and it's worth re-stating, so that the
'wrong' impression isn't gained of rainfall distribution during July
2010.
from this page, the 'England and Wales Precipitation' is given as 68.1
mm for July 2010

And it's still summer!
Wonderful fallstreaks from Altocumulus floccus.
Thank goodness the snow is not reaching the ground.
Would ruin the BBQ. Fallsteaks anyone?
Sorry for being so corny.

In Defence of the British Summer by
Seany McD
Picked this up on a US blog from one of my Google Alerts, thought it
put our opinions on UK Summer weather into perspective, particularly
for those who dislike summer heat!
Quote:
RACE AGAINST TIME
"It was officially 88 degrees at Birmingham Airport at 12 noon. It
appears fairly certain that this will be the 45th day in a row with
temperatures 90 or hotter. About the only thing that can stop it...
