The foolish GFS by
Richard Dixon[_3_]
With its roaring south-easterly and daytime maxima 0c. It clearly
hasn't parameterized by birthday.
http://expert-images.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/2012/01/09/basis12/euro/tmax/12012012_0912.gif
Always thought it was a rather sub-standard model...

Cold spell at the end of the month? by
Dave Cornwell[_4_]
It is difficult to see that even if the cold spell that has been
predicted by many happens after the 20th it will be cold enough for
anything interesting in the South. Personally I think we may have to
wait till February here before we see any snow.

Today's model interpretation (9/01/12) by
Darren Prescott[_4_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Friday.
Issued 0450, 9/01/12
Despite the signs of a change over the past few days the outlook has
reverted to a more zonal one beyond the 15th. There will still be a ridge
crossing the UK during the weekend and most places will see a settled, if
chilly, couple of days. Thereafter ECM shows a north/south split (with the
north seeing rain); GFS...

Crossover on GFS ensembles by
Eskimo Will
Consistent with my theme for colder weather setting in around mid-month
there is a definite cross-over in GFS 850 hPa ensembles from above normal
850s to below normal 850s on the 14th including operational run. Indications
of an Arctic high forming, possibly as a response to stratwarm. This time
last year winter was coming to an end, now I think it is just beginning,...
