Rain days and totals by David Mitchell
Only 0.2mm yesterday and 0.4mm today, though goodness knows how much Filey had!! However, this now brings the number of rain days up to 35 out of the last 37, which surely must be unprecedented. To give a perspective of how much rain there has been, I would estimate the annual rainfall here to be 730mm, which nicely works out as 2mm per day. We have now had 320mm in 37 days, ie around 8.6mm...

Run off and paved areas by Ian Currie
Tudor mentioned in his reply to my post last Sunday on the violent storm at Coulsdon that he did not think that paving of drive ways makes much difference to run off. In my area it certainly does. There has been quite a change in the past 30 years along my street. On my steep and quite long road many of the front gardens say in 1980 used be fenced or walled behind which there were flower beds,...

Thundery pm in Lanarkshire by Alex Stephens Jr
Quite a few Thunderstorms marched through Lanarkshire today, all but one avoiding Wishaw. None severe from this vantage point - but I look forward to seeing the rainfall total from Drumalbin Saws for the day. My timelapse webcam footage captures the nature of the developments quite...

Today's model interpretation (19/07/07) by Darren Prescott
Here is a summary of the NWP output for 12z on Monday. Issued 0524z, 19th July 2007. The week will start unsettled but there will be a weak ridge bringing a settled day on Tuesday or Wednesday. Beyond that a zonal flow looks like developing, with the most unsettled weather for the north and west. Analysis and evolution to T+120 via...

Flash Flood- Northumbria/Cumbria Border 17th July 2007 by pacrabtree@googlemail.com
Last evening there was a continual rumble of thunder coming from the North Pennine area, about 10miles to my east/south east. This morning on my way to work I came across the aftermath, a typical localised flash flood. Nearby raingauge at Lambley recorded 44mm in under 2 hrs, I suspect nearer the centre it will have been higher. The area is along the A689 between Brampton and Alston, just...

From the almost sublime to the almost ridiculous by Trevor Harley
Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far here (22.3C! crikey!). Today was the third coldest July day in my ten-year records (13.2C). Believe it or not, while I was in the south of Spain last week, one day was plagued by haar (although doubtless they call it something else). The only diference between Dundee haar and Nerja haar seemed to be that one gives temperatures of 11C, the...
