Interesting that although -0.5C in Barnard Castle there was no ice when I visited grandchildren but return to Copley in thick freezing fog and -1.5C and it's like a skating rink. Started snowing in these part just after 4pm. By 5 o'clock it had turned to freezing rain, and what had been dry snow free surfaces were all covered by a sheet of ice. Very nasty. By 6pm, it had turned back to snow, and right now there is a fresh 2 inches of the ruddy stuff over everything. We've got it. It's been snowing for the past 2 hours with a temp of -0.8C. Not particularly heavy, but continuous. It's very picturesque out there and is adding nicely to that which has been lying around, going nowhere fast, since last Saturday night. - Tom Blackmore, SW Essex

Well, errr, not quite but with unbroken sunshine from mid-morning onwards and just a light breeze it felt good to be outside, and warmer than the actual temperature. A maximum of 6.4°C after an overnight low of 0.3°C, and 6.1 hours of sunshine. A calm, still, dry evening. (19:35), 2.4°C, RH 89%, DP 0.7°C, 1037 hPa (S), Wind calm.
