cm's of rain now? by
Brian Blair
is it me or have the MO broadcast forecasters started (recently) talking
about rainfall in terms of cm's and not mm's?
Jay Winn did the other night. I think it is a terrible idea to introduce
another metric into a confused public who have either an inches or mm
mindset.
That said we had 0.0208788 meters of rain overnight last night, which came
as a surprise.

Floods affecting cropps? by
mee
Afternoon all.
Hearing about the phenomenal rainfall in recent weeks on the BBC World
Service, and on Public Broadcasting radio news, and then on the latter,
news about the Federal government handing out large amounts of dollars
to highly profitable big farming businesses and less so to the small
farmers if I understood it right, by an association of ideas I fell to
wondering how the rain and...

Guessing Cloud Heights. by
Weatherlawyer
I don't especially want to appear very thick. But it's late and I just
can't get my head around what this is about:
If T = screen (air) temperature and Td = air-mass dewpoint (degC),
then
base of Cu (in feet) = * 410
.... sufficiently accurate to use 400: i.e. (difference T-Td) * (4) *
(100)
base of Cu (in metres) = * 125
.... sufficiently accurate to use 120: i.e. (difference T-Td) * (12) *

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Wednesday. Issued

The latter half of the week still looks settled and warm over England and
Wales, with more in the way of cloud and a risk of rain for Northern Ireland
and Scotland.

July 2007 Wettest Since 1914? by
Bonos Ego
Without meaning to windup anyone that has been affected by the recent
floods (they have my sincere wishes of a speedy return to normality),
I've been looking at the Met Office's England & Wales rainfall series
and, 2007 may well turn out NOT to be the wettest July since 1914.

I'm without my usual Internet connection today, hence this shorter analysis.
Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Tuesday. Issued

A north/south split looks likely for the middle of next week, with high
pressure bringing dry and warm conditions to much of England and Wales.
Elsewhere there's likely to be more cloud and a greater risk of rain.

Looking at the new where some had been hit by 3 times the normal
monthly rainfall falling in one day, I heard one victim complaining
that the local council were not helping him.
As if council members and their workforce were not stretched to the
limit / in the same boat (so to speak.) It is the worst peacetime
disaster that emergency services have had to deal with. (According to
C4 news.)
