Dover Straits wangler by
Len Wood
Much of south coast west of IOW is being clouted by the cloud
originating around this gap if you look at the sat pic
http://www.sat24.com/en/gb
Channel generated cloud is trying to stay in organised streets under
the inversion. A bit more broken in the Wembury area. But sun in short
supply. I am not fond of these lazy wind conditions and long for the
nice long 'suckers gap' to begin Wednesday.

[WR] Haytor 14/1/11 (boring cloud) by
Eskimo Will
Well typical; a sheet of boring stratocumulus ruins a good frost night :-(
Min +1.8C Now at 0830 +3.6C with a light (and increasing SE wind).
Max. will be lower than yesterday as it is cloudy.
At least it is dry though.

My lowest so far this winter. Dropped 0.2C in the past hour so we

Today's model interpretation (14/01/12) by
Darren Prescott[_4_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Wednesday.
Issued 0528, 14/01/12
The battle between cold air to the east and milder air to the west still
looks set to occur next week. The latter half of the working week will see
WSW'lies across the UK as low pressure moves eastwards to the north. By the
weekend, however, GFS and ECM are as far apart as they were yesterday. ECM
still drives...

Next Weeks Cold Spell: A Bit of a Jimmy Cliff Hanger by
Lawrence13
Or are there more questions than answers or maybe just too many models
to cross.
However:
Okay Stratospheric warming creates Tropospheric cooling-why?
I also understand that the Polar Vortex being knocked of its perch
leads to a far less active jet stream and westerly's at out latitudes
with ridging and troughing far more likely but is that due to
stratospheric warming as well.

Remember the topplers? by
Dave Cornwell[_4_]
After the different winters of the last two years I wonder if this one
will return to a common default position of other recent winters. High
pressure spells with the threat of potent northerlies only for the
threat to shift East with a so called "toppler" HP. I hope not but the
starting blocks are appearing (excuse the pun) :-(
