Cloud, dull and miserable (SAD) by Keith (Southend)
The subject could be referring to me grin, but I just hate this time of year when it never really gets light. Another couple of days like this and I'll be hanging up side down from the ceilings! And it must be worse in Scotland. As from the 1st December 2008, (Updates on the 2nd), some of the high level locations up north of the uk, Cairngorm 03065 etc, (text in blue generally), I will...

It was quite alarming actually as I was off caving at Burrington and then Swildons Hole at Priddy. A fair sweat worked up during the day but the streamway in Swildons was bloody cold & I abandoned an idea to come up the Wet Way via the 'Lavatory Pan' because of...

Jon's name for it! Tip of Pempboke to Scilly all day, www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/index.html just enough east in the wind to keep it away from Cornwall (as forecast) I'm pleased to say. The Cb to the west are clearly visible. Graham Penzance

Frost intensification after dawn by Hawkeye23
Apolgies from a newbie if this turns out to be an old chestnut. I have noticed this before in general - but in particular up here (N.Yorks) in the last few days.I imagine there is a scientific name for the phenomenon - which I hope someone will tell me.But more generally I am hoping that someone will explain how/why it happens. Layman's observations as follows. When I get up and take dogs out...

[WR] Coldest day of 2008? by Nick Gardner[_4_]
With the temperature struggling to get above 3°C this is likely to be the coldest day of this year, and the coldest day since the 20th Dec 2007 (which ended up being the coldest day of 2007). What a strange year this has been: The hottest day occurred in May (11th with 27.9°C). February was sunnier than August (135/120 hrs). December was the coldest month of winter 2007/08 (mean 5.6°C). There...
