Fairly sunny, cold & V. windy, but . . by
Graham Easterling[_3_]
There was a decent wave where the wind was offshore so
http://www.sennen-cove.com/todaysurf.htm
It was 7C at best with a F6 SE wind. In fact, at the time this photo
was taken ,the mean wind speed was 34mph and the temperature was 6C at
nearby Land's End. So F7 at cliff top level. Might be OK in the water,
but getting changed in the car park doesn't bear (bare?) thinking
about.
It has been a...

Battle of the Models by
Lawrence13
Well 18z GFS blow a massive westerly raspberry in the face of the
12zECMWF.
I'm afraid coldie grapplers it's all over . The GFS wins by three
falls and a submission. The models are ****e anyway and wrestle with
anything after five days we should save a fortune in spending and
close the bloody things down. Old Moore's almanac is far cheaper and
probably more accurate.

[WR] Haytor 15/1/12 (cold wind) by
Eskimo Will
0820
Temp +2.7C moderate east wind giving wind chill -3C. DP -0.2C
Broken cloud but still 7/8 Sc cover. Postbridge is similar conditions but a
bit colder.
There will be significant below freezing wind chill above 500 metres today
with temperatures near freezing all day at 600m asl. since Camborne
radiosonde has a temperature of +1.5C and a wind speed of 34 knots (brrrrrr)
at that height.

Mesoscale models on WeatherOnline by
Richard Dixon[_2_]
Folks
Just noticed the addition of the KNMI's HIRLAM model (that apparently did
quite a good job of getting the intensity of windstorm Ulli) and the
Norwegian Met Service's limited area model. Quite useful comparisons for
the short-term interesting weather scenarios in the UK.
T+48 from 00Z example below comparing UKMet's NAE, HIRLAM, Norwegian and
the "best of the rest", ECMWF, albeit for...

Today's model interpretation (15/01/12) by
Darren Prescott[_4_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Thursday.
Issued 0444, 15/01/12
The end of the week will see westerlies across the UK, with rain spreading
eastwards for most areas. Beyond that the battle lines remain drawn, with
ECM showing a cold and unsettled outlook, while GFS shows milder weather
throughout with much more mobility to the flow than with ECM.
Analysis and evolution to...
