Davis weather stations - price changes by John Dann
Hope no-one will object to a brief announcement: We've received notification that the UK trade prices of Davis stations is to rise by around 20% on average as from 1st Dec 2008. The background is the plummeting sterling/dollar exchange rate which means that Davis trade purchases are now costing anything up to 40% more than was the case earlier this year, plus the fact that Davis list prices...

Anticrepuscular Rays by Jack (jack.harrison@gmail.com)
Good explanation and photo at Astronomy Picture of the Day (a NASA website) http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ If by the time you try to look, it has been replaced by a new picture, this one (Anticrepuscular Rays) will still be in the archive. Jack

Penzance - Warm with sunshine. by Graham Easterling[_2_]
Good sunny periods this morning, sunny spells this afternoon. This, combined with light winds and very good visibilty made it a lovely day. Some pictures at www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/recent.html Max 15.1C Last nights min 9.6C An interesting day despite the quiet conditions. Scilly very clear from Tregonebris (which is 35 miles away on the road from Penzance to Land's End) so visibility...

Suffolk Tornado Clear-up continues.... by jennikwpit@onetel.net
I saw no coverage of this event in East Suffolk on this news site. It was reported on TV regional news in some detail Certainly in addition to their barbecue large trees were demolished. The local weather presenter that evening stressed that it wasn't tornadoes - now I see the local East Anglian Daily Times refer to a tornado in this part of their report from 12 Nov Paper- "In Pettistree,...

Walking the dog. by Weatherlawyer
About 13 minutes into this decidedly non-Helen Willets series: http://www.accuweather.com/video-on-demand.asp?partner=hsb&video=nati... It ranges from discussions of the Santa Ana and Lake Effects to the utterly banal. Too bad the good stuff wasn't in greater depth but it does show that for all our snooty comments about the USAnians they do have a sense of humour and they are not subject to a...

Last night's min temp by Norman[_2_]
Last night's min temp here was unexpectedly low given the weather pattern that existed. At 1700z the temp was 12C. It then fell quite quickly to a min of 7.4C at 2015z before rising again to 11C by midnight. I assume that the cloud cleared for a few hours. More surprising was the grass min of 2.8C. That was an unusually large difference from the air min at this site, perhaps as a result of...

BBC Interest in Weather Stations by Nick Gardner[_4_]
I had an email from Zoe Clough who is the producer/director for the regional programme Inside Out here in the South West and she is researching a possible film about private weather stations. I am sure she would like to hear from anyone who is interested in helping her with the research and may like to appear in such a film. If you would like to contact her then email me and I will forward...

Forty days and forty nights... and counting by Steve Loft
It's raining today, 6mm since midnight. It's rained here (at least 0.2mm recorded) every day for the last seven weeks, except the 5th November. On that day, there was drizzle. I'm not complaining, merely reporting. -- Steve Loft Sanday, Orkney. 5m ASL. http://sanday.org.uk/weather Free weather station softwa http://sandaysoft.com/
