CNN) -- Hurricane Isabel pushed ashore with winds of 100 mph Thursday, knocking out power to more than half a million homes in North Carolina and Virginia, and dumping heavy rain across hundreds of miles, from South Carolina to New Jersey. GFS watcher and more... by JCW
I know Metcheck have posted a link to allow comparison of GFS runs for a particular period but only now did I notice that the Wetterzentrale TOP KARTEN site provides a link to an even much more extensive comparison of runs from the past 9 runs for any period T+12 out to T+180. Reference: http://www.gfs-vergleich.at.tf Apologies if this is old news but I obviously missed it!

Isabel and the UK by Jimmy Osram
I've just read that Isabel is unusual because "Very few hurricanes can maintain that intensity" . This, along with the size of it, would anyone care to take a guess to what, if any, influence this will have on the UK weather? Jimmy Osram

*** BREAKING NEWS *** by Nigel Studd
yep, the 100 days forecast is out at metcheck covering the 25th Dec to the 2nd Jan. it is of course a premium service at which you have to pay a tidy sum each month. Yo! Ho! Ho! the models can't even agree on the next few days, what are they on, must be making money i suppose. it's given me a laugh anyway all we need are the polar bears to make it complete.

29.5C in South Cambridgeshire 17.9.2003 by Gavin Staples
I wasn't able to switch on my computer yesterday so I have announced it today. 29.5C on 17 September is certainly the highest temp I have known after the middle of September. I can remember 28C on 20 Sept or thereabouts in 1982. This weather this month must make everyone wonder what we will get in October. I would not be surprised if we had a 27 or 28 in October. After all we had a 38 in...

Rainfall August/September Bracknell (Tawfield) by martin rowley
As at 18/0900GMT, total rainfall Aug/Sep = 14.2 + (3.2) = 17.4mm / ~15% of eLTA (1971-2000): Looking at the Beaufort Park record (since 1971), cannot find a similar pairing of such-named months with less rain. -- Martin Rowley: data via: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.weather/metindex.htm Bracknell (Wooden Hill/Great Hollands), Berkshire. Met Office site - observations archive now 30 days by Dave Ludlow
I was pleasantly surprised to see the MetO site's archive of hourly obs from about 70 places in the UK has been increased from 7 days to 30 days http://www.metoffice.com/education/archive/uk/ :) Next on my wish list: a wider range of data (such as max/mins) and clickable links to individual station data (like this University of Wyoming METAR page) ...

Back to the garden at last - Is it me? by trevor.appleton
Finally getting back in the garden now its cooled down to get some work done. Is it just me that finds it too hot to work in the garden between June and late Auigust? This 'glorious summer' as many describe it was just something to get through, with days on end spent cowering in the shade or in the house. How anyone can think of moving to France I'll never know.

Pea Souper! by Dave Ludlow
I was shocked to look out of the window just now, shallow thick fog (dense, really), less than 100 metres visibility at street level but the sky is visible. Temperature 13 deg C, a "warm" fog. Eerie and silent outside, with only a 2 or 3 street lamps visible in any direction. Quite a surprise, dense fog is pretty unusual in these parts, these days. Oh, I see that Southampton A/P METARS have just...

"Isabel" high resolution loop by Norman Lynagh
The high resolution satellite loop of "Isabel" is fascinating to watch again today. It is at http://hadar.cira.colostate.edu/ramsdis/online/RSOgeflt.html Many of the frames are only min minute apart. There are some strange developments in the low cloud to the SW of the hurricane, just outside the cirrus shield. Wind shear near the centre can be clearly seen from the movement of the...
