Why is it... by
Vidcapper
That a thermometer placed on top of a white screen on a clear night will
read a lot lower than one inside? I wouldn't have expected it to make
*that* much difference.
I tried it on the 24th, and it read -2C, as opposed to +1.5C inside.

Warm & Sunny by
Graham Easterling
In complete contrast to the forecast, the front moved north as a weak affair
around dawn, giving just a sharp shower. Today's been sunny and warm. 20.1
degrees in a light SE wind.
There seems to have been several attempts at forecasting how the front was
going to behave, but at least they've been consistently wrong.

Sept 03 in Warlingham by
TudorHgh
Hello everyone,
The remarkable fact about temperatures here during September is that the
mean max, at 20.5°C, is the highest in my 21-yr record, whereas the mean min is
the third-equal lowest, at 8.5°C. Overall this makes the month only in the
top third of all Septembers I have recorded, as far as temperature is
concerned.
The mean diurnal range of 12.0°C is easily the highest in my...

and southern Poland. The main sub-tropical high was displaced
far west of its normal position near the Azores to be centred
SSE of Nova Scotia, and there was a weak low of 1017 mbar
just northwest of the...

Gary \(Torquay\)
Hi, Woke to deep base rumbles this morning as a storm passed me about 5
miles out in the channel. The storm did kick off some great lightning out at
sea.
A few C.G.'s.could be seen from my advantage point :)

Rain and bloody minded forecasts by
Simon Wyndham
Hi,
I'm sat here at my computer in Malvern looking out of the window at lots
of heavy drizzle/rain. All forecasts I have seen say it will be dry
with sunny spells. Even the BBC websites 'current observations' for the
area just have mist!
What's going on? All forecasts for rain never happen, and then we get
rain when it isn't forecast!

Change of Phase? by
Simon S
As I said in a previous post the sea surface temperature close to the
Arctic have gone from a strong +'ve annomally that has been there for
about 2 years to areas of -'ve annomally. Is this a change in phase of
some sort?
Often with the Sea Surface Temperature annomalies are caused by an
obvious mechanism. For example the western Atlantic at the moment
after all the Hurricanes and tropical...

From the 12Z GFS run:

Any opinions on whether this will come off? What sort of temperatures could
we expect if it did happen?
The latter part of next week towards the weekend doesn't look too warm
either....
