[WR] Basildon by
Len Watts
The Maximum today in Basildon didn't quite make yesterdays total of 29.6C
and only came in at 29.2C
after an overnight minimum of 16.8C
Mostly due to a fairly strong Easterly breeze and cloudier skies this
afternoon. Precipitation is in sight but does not appear to be making it to
ground level.
Rather a disapointment after all the hype and I don't really hold out too
much hope of any records...

Same down here in Lincoln. A breeze has just started, and it's feeling
noticeably cooler - 8 oktas cloud now too. Looks like we're due some rain.

Well, definitely on course for a record then! ;-) by
David Buttery
ITV Teletext p304 just now:
"Temperatures are expected to be even hotter at 344C"
Even Barbourne's going to have a job beating that! ;-)

Record Warm night in West Cornwall by
Graham Easterling
Temperature remained well above 20 degrees over West Cornwall last night,
minimum 23 degrees at St Mawgan - Newquay. (Which is on the north coast, not
on the south coast as shown on the lunch-time forecast.)
After a lot of thunder, but virtually no rain this morning, it's turned
sunny & somewhat fresher. Mid-day temperature here in Penzance 23.5 degrees,
virtually identical to mid-night last...

Request for pointers to home grown amateur weather station building. by
Just For Fun
Hi, does anyone have pointers to information that would help in building
components for a home grown weather station.
I have looked at some of the 'kits' available and they are very much
outside of my price range. A Heath-Robinson effort would be much more in
line with what I am after.
Thanks in advance.

26.1°C in Guernsey at 2350 GMT by

Very warm feed of air coming in from the French coast.
Possibly a new record high for a night minimum temperature here?
And a bit difficult to sleep....

NWP wind accuracy by
Elena
Recently, there was a case of cold front passing.
Wind was observed to turn in 20 minutes.
A high-resolution NWP model* had, at output resolution of 3h, both
pre-frontal and post-frontal wind right.
My friend wants to know: what is the limit ? Could the model have wind
right in 20 min scale, too ? So is the limit only in the output or do
we meet the model physics already ? Words like...

UK Highest Temp to go this Week? by

Everyone and almost everybody is going mad on this one.
I have seen 3 forecasts for London showing 37C for Wednesday.
There are some quite unique conditions for some high temperatures but
I'll go for a 36C somewhere. If we got a 38C and it is an official one,
then TWO have won the...

Air conditioning in the UK? by
Ian
Been hearing of the unusually hot weather in britain, and mainland
Europe lately (southern Germany 102 F!), and of course thought,
Oh dear, and they don't have air conditioning!
But, is this altogether true? Is it known what proportion of
domestic and commercial buildings now have air conditioning in Britain, and/or
Europe generally, I wonder?
Here in north texas, it's been flickering around...

Eventual breakdown severe? by
N R Whitelegg
In the referenced article, "Sean Blowman" writes:
Hopefully when the current "heatwave" ends the possibilty of a severe
thundery breakdown must exist, such as the breakdown of 1976. Any thoughts?
My observations are that the severest thundery spells are actually after
two or three day "temporary" hot spells, perhaps because pressure is lower.
The really hot summers...

Radar Question? by
Simon S
As I watch only a few very large rain drops falling (20:30) I wonder
if this is going to show up as heavy rain or light rain on the radar.
Is it rate that matter or will drop size make a difference?
