OT - Sahara moving north by
Scott Whitehead
With ice sheets evidently on the move in the Arctic and Antarctic - in
terms of moving from one area to another - it occured to me on the way
into work today that surely deserts must do the same and there must be
accounts from subsistence farmers in the central African basin with
accounts that...
"The Sahara desert used to start here - now this area is well
irrigated and is being reclaimed by the...

Fed up with this drought by
EUROGROW
I'll try not to turn this thread into too much of a whinge, but do people
realise how crop and food production is influenced by the weather. Here are a
few examples.
Spring this year. Prolonged dry period. restricted crop growth and nutrient
uptake. effect yield decrease resulting in higher flour prices and higher bread
prices.
wet period july 25th-31st. grain ripe and ready to harvest. does...

Halifax Storm by
Andrew Titley
Hi.
Not even an amateur meteorologist, just visiting the site for help!
I'm wanting info about the so-called Halifax Storm, May 1989.
I've found references to 'Weather' journal, issues 44/45/46, 1989, but don't
know who would have such things archived locally.
I've also found an article (probably a bit too techy) in another journal
(EGU?) analysing radar of the storm.
All I'm wanting is some...

CET~ max/min Question by
Alex Stephens Jnr
Rather than just the raw monthly mean figures, is it possible to obtain
the mean min' and mean max' data for all the months in the CET series?
The reason I ask because I'm interested in finding out if any months in the
series had a sub zero mean maximum. Particularly months in the 20th century
(January 1963 perchance?)
TIA
Alex.

Very Similar to Last Year by
Simon S
It occured to me that the weather seemed similar to last year so I
looked back at some of the Archived charts for this time last year and
was not supprised to see that a large scandi high had developed.
Wonder if other patterns of last year will be repeated. Although last
year did not produce severe cold and deep snow it did give examples of
classic pressure...

The Great Storm 1703 ?? by
Keith (Southend)
I think it was last night on BBC1 they advertised a programme about
one of the severist storms to the region (BBC East we tend to get)
ever. I think the programme was 'Inside Out' at 19:30. However,
searching through the BBC TV listings I can't find anything to confirm
this programme. Does anyone know anything about it. I was assuming
they were talking about the Great Storm of 1703.
Many thanks...

Does anyone know why or how the small .ico pictures are saved in the
Favorites on IE6.0? I ask because I had them and now I just get the
Explorer .ico. IS there something you have to switch on/off? I like
the graphics of them, sad I know :-)
Many thanks
