Inside Out ~ The storm of 1702 by
Keith (Southend)
Well, the usual build up to another dissapointing feature. I recorded
that part of the half hour programme that lasted 9 minutes, which
apart from some comments from Jim Bacon and Peter Gibbs lacked in
substance.
Maybe it's just me, but I find that TV try to over dramatise the whole
event, with blurring pictures and wosshing noises, yet never try to
put some meat on the bone, in the form of...

Polar light reports Northern Germany and Holland by
Wijke
Hi, all
Polar light reports currently from some site in Germany and Holland.
http://www.spacew.com/www/auroras.html
http://www.naturgefahren.de/aurora.htm
Of course Northern regions of the British Isles have the best chances -- but
skies are clear more south -- a bright moon staring at me currently :-)).

Perfection by
Ron Button
Sorry if this is very boring to anyone living north of Birmingham, but can
anybody in the much blessed South East remember a more perfect weather day
..?
Deep blue skies ,unbroken powerful sunshine , scarcely a breath of wind all
day ,and a temp. around 17C
Absolutely brilliant, fit for any Red Indian (sorry, native American Indian)
living this side of Solihull.
Benign regards to you all

BBc Weather - 10.30pm by
Chris Mantle
I just caught the end of the weather with the sound very low, however did I
hear Rob E saying that Tuesday was going to windy and wet just like autumn.
I was very surprised having seen all the forecasts on the group over the
past couple of day.
Maybe I am wrong and suffering from lack of rain fever :)
Thanks

Not the Long-Range Forecast for October by
Philip Eden
Using analogue selection for 30-day periods and pattern
sequences for 5-day periods during Aug/Sept, then using
best-fit years, gives us the following for October 2003:
Mean sea-level pressure pattern over the British Isles:
south-westerly
Mean pressure anomaly pattern over the Br.Is:
near normal, perhaps a hint of NW-ly or N-ly

Rain "decaying" - use of language. by
JPG
A perfect example of why forecasters have to be careful about language. On
Radio 4 this morning at 0730 the presenters (James Naughtie and Edward Sturton)
had an amusing exchange over what they evidently thought was an inappropriate
and unintentionally comedic use of the expression "Rain from the west will
decay". In the context and bearing in mind the audience the word "decay" for
rain...

BrianT
Listening to "Feedback" tonight on radio 4. after a listener complained, the
Manager of the BBC Weather Centre explains what happens when the forecast
goes wrong. He says " why they don't apologise but do say what went wrong.
And why if they are 12 hours out with a forecast they consider it " not a
bad forecast" !!!
