Very frosty by
Graham
Low this morning of -6.7c already down to -6.5c at 21.00
Not saying anything about the snow, as I've seen these situations so many
times in the past come to nothing or very little.
Let's see what happens tomorrow:)

Unexpected heavy snow in Brussels by
Colin Youngs[_2_]
Small North Sea low moving south has led to a good 3 cm or so of snow in
Brussels since about 15.00 Belgian time. Most fell in a period of intense
snowfall between about 16.00 and 17.00.
Traffic at a standstill in the centre of Brussels around 17.00. Rush hour
traffic on the road leading SE out of the city near where I live was moving
at about walking pace when I passed by half an hour...

Snow shower threat? by
Dave Cornwell[_4_]
I notice the Friday night snow risk for the S.E from enlivened activity
in the North Sea seems to have gone from this morning's forecast
although still a yellow warning for it. One down one to go.

East wind picking up by
Eskimo Will
This may seem insignificant but the east wind has really picked up here in
the past hour despite predictions of light winds today. Also a build up of
cumulus. Temperature has fallen back down to
-1.0C at 1230, probably giving us an ice day. It makes me wonder if the
advection of colder air from France has been underdone by the models in
relation to the warm front/triple point coming in...

State of Arctic ice by
James Brown
Not seen it looking so fragmented as this for the start of February - a
prolonged period of SW winds I think has been the main factor?
http://www.iup.uni-bremen.de:8084/ssmis/arctic_SSMIS_nic.png
http://nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/images/daily_images/N_timeseries.png
is also showing overall a bit lower than the 2007 period.
