Lovely bright sunny morning, if a little hazier than yesterday. Will I need
my snow shovel later or won't I? After promising a big dump, it's now
looking like...

Camborne 0000 radiosonde has wet-bulb freezing level of 320m asl (just above
my house) but Valentia has 1500 metres, so quite warm air aloft. You will be
OK in the east, but for me snow persistence will depend on how much the air
gets modified. We shall see, in Feb 2009 we had 9 inches with a wet-bulb...

[OT] Heat sensation in cold weather by
Patrick (UK)
Temperature 1 C, no wind, humidity 60%
Walking for 45 minutes along the high street without gloves, I didn't get
any sensation of cold in my hands. Nor were my fingers in the least bit
cold to touch.
OTOH I've been jogging in warmer temperatures than this and felt my fingers
go very cold.
Can't understand why my hands didn't feel the tiniest bit cold.

Today's model interpretation (4/02/12) by
Darren Prescott[_4_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Wednesday.
Issued 0504, 4/02/12
The latter half of the working week will see high pressure affecting the UK.
ECM has it over the UK with light winds for all, while GFS shows it further
north; this would allow cold ENE'lies to spread across much of England and
Wales with a snow risk in southern and some eastern areas. Interestingly
both runs...

**Forecast: coldest spell of the winter coming for many.** by
Dawlish
The initial model hints of 4 days ago have created enough agreement
and consistency for me to say this, with 80% confidence.
**At T+240, on 3rd Feb, the UK will be experiencing the coldest spell
of the winter so far, certainly for England and Wales. Daytime
temperatures will struggle to rise above freezing in the daytime and
sharp and penetrating frosts will characterise nights with clear
skies....
