Continental high by Richard Dixon
Dear All Just skimmed through the GFS forecast and noticed the high pressure pretty much throughout over Northern Europe/Siberia. No doubt this will throw up the first few "if only it were January" cries. A hint of the patterns to come later in the year? No doubt it'll be roaring westerlies by January! Richard

BBc forecast this morning by Norman Lynagh
The weather presenter on BBC SouthEast a few minutes ago said 'Winds will be very light so not enough wind to punch any holes in the cloud' I despair :-) Norman. (delete "thisbit" twice to e-mail) --

Short & Mason Micro-Barograph by amcwill417
I purchased a new Short & Mason Micro-Barograph (made in England) more than 40 years ago. It has always worked fine except once or twice I had to have the hand wound clock serviced. Is this company still in business? Alex (in U.S.A.)

Today's model interpretation (6/10/05) by Darren Prescott
Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Monday. Issued 0538z, 6/10/05. The models continue to show an unsettled start to the week with low pressure never far from the UK. A secondary low or trough still looks like bringing wet weather across the UK. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif SSW'lies and SW'lies cover the UK with a trough to the west. A low deepens to the...

Tosh and drivel by the bucket load-forever Amber. by lawrence Jenkins
I have to say after reading UKMO's latest crap the time has come to call a spade a spade. Yer talking out of your commercially driven 'form over substance' ARSE! Read this-is it me? A prolonged, severe winter is one of the biggest threats to the efficient day-to-day running of the country. With this in mind, the Met Office has given advanced warning to many of its customers and partners to...

New Scientist Premium- Climate doesn't swing to the rhythm of the sun by Nick
A study of Irish bogs has thrown doubt on claims that global warming is being caused by increased solar activity CLAIMS that increased solar activity could explain the world's warming climate are challenged by a study of Irish bogs. The research, which is a fresh blow to climate sceptics, shows that while there are cyclical changes in both climate and the sun's activity, there is no obvious link...

New Scientist Technology - AI systems may blow weathermen away by Nick
Weather forecasters could find themselves pushed out of a job by an artificial intelligence system designed to write clearer, less ambiguous reports. Computer scientists at the University of Aberdeen, UK, were asked to generate an "artificial weatherperson" by operators of offshore oil rigs, who wanted more clarity in their forecasts. The vocabulary used by different forecasters can be vague and...
