From Cornwell to Dorset by Robin Nicholson
We came back yesterday, a day early, from Cornwell and how the temperature plunged. Close to Land's End the car showed 9C and then by the time I got to Dorchester it was 1C. The VP showed it dipped to -5.1 yesterday but nothing like it during last night - currently -0.5. Having got back, it was off again,as Pickles, the eldest labrador was getting worse and is now fighting for his life on a drip...

Another fine day on Fair Isle. by Dave Wheeler
Hardly any wind, temp between 2 and 3C, with dew points around -4C. Pity about the extensive Sc sheet. However, a few holes developing shortly after sunrise resulteed in a strange lighting effect as shallow anglerays of sunlight reflected off an almost flat sea, illuminated the underside of the cloud. With the S/SW horizon just clear of cloud there was a splendid sunset! A few pictures at...

Coventry snow by Steve J
We had some light snow in Coventry for an hour or so before dawn on Friday; although it had stopped by 0730hr, there was still a covering at Bablake at 0900hr, albeit not enough to measure depth in cventimetres! So the 2nd of January goes down in the Met Office diary as a snow day and a day of snow lying! Snowy cheers (a term borrowed from Will!)

Frost Fair programme by jamma-plusser
Some people will no doubt be interested in this Radio 4 programme (broadcast on 1st January 2009) on the River Thames Frost Fairs from the 17th century onwards, available via iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00g6t3m/Frost_Fair/ 90 minutes running time. It apparently covers some of the more scientific aspects too.

December 2008 in Canterbury by Jonathan Stott
....was cold and dry! -7.9C is the lowest temperature I've recorded since I started in Sep 2004. Three days from the month (28th, 29th, 30th) make it into my ten coldest days. The maximum on the 29th was 2.2C, but I have recorded 4 days colder than that and two others equal. 22.1mm makes it my driest December (of 4) and 9th driest month overall. Abs max: 13.3C (20th)
