No more snow in Brussels but still just as cold by
Colin Youngs[_2_]
Brussels on Sunday 5th February 2012
Minimum temperature before midnight. Slow rise in temperature overnight as
a light to moderate SSE wind set in.
Sunny morning. Areas of medium-level cloud (Ac) appeared soon after midday
and much of the afternoon was rather cloudy, although still bright. Cloud
tended to disperse again towards dusk. Another freezing day. Light SSE
to S wind...

[WR] No frost in S.Essex by
Dave Cornwell[_4_]
Despite being close to the cold air on the continent persistent cloud
prevented a frost forming. I'm sur e it must be some sort of a record
that the temperature remained a constant 0.7C +/- 0.1C from 1800 to 0800.

Silly flowers by
Eskimo Will
People were moaning on my walk today about how much the frost has ruined
their floral displays on the south coast. For goodness sake it is early
February, surely frost is expected and one should not expect flowers/shrubs
like camellias to thrive so early in the year . Guess I'm lucky because I
have a different climate to most of the rest of SW England (i.e. a lot
colder) that mine are safely...

Copious rain for the pressure. by
James Brown
Never went below 1021 but we got 0.7" in the nine or so hours of
precipitation - four of which were snow or snow grains. I wasn't
expecting so much with the pressure that high.
Temps now dropping back like a stone.

Today's model interpretation (6/02/12) by
Darren Prescott[_4_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Friday.
Issued 0501, 6/02/12
The end of the week will see high pressure to the NE with southerlies or
SSE'lies over the UK. As with the present situation, western areas will be
less cold than eastern areas although at the moment most places look like
seeing a dry end to the week. Over the weekend pressure will build over the
UK, although it...

Channel convergence line? by
Eskimo Will
Potential for a Channel shower convergence line to develop mid-week as the
bitter easterlies return. This *could* give Graham E. in Penzance a pasting
from snow showers, or, if the wind veers a bit the south coast of Devon and
eastern slopes of dartmoor. Only a possibility at present, but one I will be
looking out for as these situations can give very heavy localised falls of
snow despite...

Deja Vu by
John Hall
Not that it's likely to happen like that so far out, but the charts in
today's 12Z GFS operational run for Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th look
eerily reminiscent of what we've experienced this weekend.

A dry day with a max. of +5.7C (earlier in the night).
Just partial cover of snow left on the high moor although some extensive
bits in Fernworthy forest where still 4-5 inches and on trees. A nice day
for walking over still quite frozen ground with patchy ice.

An eventful evening - ice pellets changed to moderate rain as the front
arrived at 2125z. The rain didn't last long, though, it was all over by
2200z. No sign of any ground surfaces thawing - I have reported state of
ground type 5 (glaze) this morning for the first time since the 80s. The
roads are treacherous, so will...
