[WR] Haytor 7/2/09 (Gorgeous morning) by
Will Hand
0850
Sunny.
Wind NW F4
AWS temp says +0.2C, screen says -0.3C - AWS wrong as low sun angle is
catching it.
Snow depth average 17cm - full cover.
Snow now more crusty and low drifting has eased considerably.

PPN total (so far) West Moors - Feb09 by
Martin Rowley
.... The various snow events of the past week have provided us with an
equivalent rainfall total of 53 mm up to 18Z today. This represents
roughly 76% of the LTA (71-00) for the whole month of February, much
of this coming over the past 4 days.

[WR] 0755Z West Moors/East Dorset by
Martin Rowley
.... been raining off and on all night, often moderate intensity:
temperature hovering ~2 to 2.5°C much of night, so no 'wintry' PPN.
In last hour though, with slight bulk advection of cold air from NW
and some evaporative cooling, the OAT has fallen to 1.6°C. Reports of
RASN not far to the W of us (Lytchett Matravers), and it won't be long
I think before we start seeing such here.

RMK: Snow has compacted a little since yesterday,
with a drop in total depth to 18cm in spite of 3cm fresh
snow in the last 24 hours. Sky did not clear until about
midnight; fog formed relatively recently judging by
small amount of rime. B4540 passable with care,

A winter Like they used to be. by
Keith (Southend)
My subject line says it all, go back about 15 years and I would rate
this winter as the 'norm' for the UK. If the media were to be taken
seriously one would think we were heading into an iceage (One for Joe
*******i!, who is a little irritated by the Euro forecasters if you have
the day to read it): (If you didn't knoe, Joe is a GW...

[WR] Devon Snow 2 by
Jon O'Rourke
Made it home, just. About 4-5cm of slushy wet snow at the Met Office in
Exeter. Given the rain in the evening I honestly didn't think it would
settle but it appeared that it turned to sleet, which froze and the wet snow
settled on that. Quite a bit more snow where I am with a max of 9cm measured
on the top of my wheelie bin. Currently continuous light to mod snow.
A memorable but long night...

any snow lovers sick of the snow yet? by
Scott W
Personally, I'm looking forward to the next lot about to move in to
the South East for tomorrow. If nothing else it will be nice for all
the ice and slush to be covered up... Just hope that the current dew
point goes a lot lower...

Daffodils in SE Lincs by
seasend25@googlemail.com
Just comparing this year to last - I have 40 acres of daffodils
surrounding my house.
2008, first daffodils were through on 11th Jan, first in flower on
21st Jan, commercial picking started 29th Feb.
2009, first daffodils through on 27th Jan, very little further growth
since then - no sign of anything near flowering yet.
At last, proper winter weather seems to be putting things back on

Today's model interpretation (7/02/09) by
Darren Prescott[_2_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Wednesday.
Issued 0521, 7th February 2009
After a cold Wednesday, it looks like pressure will build from the west for
the end of the working week, bringing milder conditions by day to the south
and west especially. It's still likely to be frosty by night, however, due
to clear skies and light winds.

GFS v ECM by
Phil Layton
Quite a consistent difference in the outlook between these models.
MetO going along with EC with another 2 weeks of cold conditions, whereas
WeatherOnline, who use the GFS model, bring us mild weather with temps up to
13c by Thursday.
