Today's model interpretation (18/03/09) by
Darren Prescott[_3_]
Note: I've to leave early today, hence this shorter analysis. Normal service
will be resumed tomorrow.
Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon (GMT) on Sunday. Issued
0514, 18th March 2009.
High pressure will slowly lose its hold on the UK early next week, with a
ridge declining southwards. Initially settled conditions for much of England
and Wales will give way to windier,...

Thickness Question by
Keith[_3_]
I've been watching the GFS output because there's more snow forecast for
us over the next week. The output which shows thickness varying from
5400 to 5160 over about 100 Km, would this trigger any significant
weather phenomena, in the same way as close isobars indicate gales,
other than just going from balmy to bl**dy chilly in a couple of hours

Today's model interpretation (17/03/09) by
Darren Prescott[_3_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Saturday.
Issued 0502, 17th March 2009
The weekend will see high pressure close by with plenty of settled weather
for England and Wales; areas further north will see more in the way of cloud
and possibly rain in northern Scotland. Into next week things gradually turn
less settled as pressure falls. GFS shows a cold outlook but ECM doesn't
back...

[WR] Otter Valley, Devon by
Nick Gardner[_4_]
The sunniest and warmest day of the year so far.
Unbroken sunshine all day giving a total of 11.2 hours. This helped push the
temperature up to 16.7°C this afternoon after a chilly start with an
overnight low of 2.2°C.
Have to go all the way back to the 13th October (16.8°C) to find a day as
warm as today.

[WR] Hot in Lisbon, Portugal by
Nick Gardner[_4_]
Just been told by the outlaws that it's hot over in Lisbon. Checked the
temperature report from Lisbon Airport and they had a max of 27°C today.
Is this a record? The BBC website shows that 27°C is the max recorded in
March but I don't know how accurate or how often that is updated. It
certainly seems warm for so early in the year.

Guildford - t-shirt and sunburn by
markg987 at hotmail dot com
While watching the son play at the Guildfordians rugby festival today,
weather was fantastic, ended up in my t-shirt and a with scolding from
the wife about not applying the suncream to son and myself - never had
sunburn in the March 'winter' before. Temperature felt like 17 degrees.

Pleb by
Bear[_2_]
Does anyone know of a organisation within the uk dedicated to storm chasing.
If so could they foreword any details. I live in Melksham and we have had
many incidences of low powerd tornados. Well to say low powered is a bit
vague , enough to lift a car snap a lamp post and remove a roof. Thanks
again Paul
