[WR] Fochabers by
Anne Burgess
On Wednesday I acquired one of these max-min thermometers with a
sensor you put outside. I know they're not the most accurate or
reliable of thermometers, but I am interested to see that the
minimum reading since then is -1.9ºC and the maximum is 3.8ºC. I
would have expected a lower minimum given the still air and
clear skies we had yesterday and last night.
As I type it's gone up from...

Yet again cold & cloudy here so what's new, suppose most places are
bathed in sunshine!
Amazing really drive a few miles south west and it's sunny, it's about
right for this place, and Dave R thinks he's got it bad:)
Min last night only fell to -1.1c due to cloud cover.
Current temp 1.0c
Sorry guys I do like cold weather but something just a little more

ice flower? by
Susie
Early one morning a couple of weeks ago we found an ice growth/formation
in a birds' water dish. The whole dish was frozen solid with a flat
surface. IIRC correctly it had been a dry but dampish night.
There was just the one single column of smooth ice about .5cm diameter
and around 3cm tall, on top of which was a formation of ice "petals",
all of them square and .5 to 2cm across. There...

Today's model interpretation (3/01/09) by
Darren Prescott[_2_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Wednesday.
Issued 0527, 3rd January 2009
The models continue to struggle even at T+120. ECM and MetO are still
bullish about a mobile setup as zonality sets in, but this has no support
from GFS, which instead keeps a high over the UK. All that can be said is
the middle of the week is likely to be cold, with *possibly* milder air
moving in from...

Today's model interpretation (2/01/09) by
Darren Prescott[_2_]
Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Tuesday.
Issued 0546, 2nd January 2009
The models are still showing great differences this morning with the
handling of our high. ECM quickly collapses the whole thing southwards, with
a chilly couple of days early in the week and milder conditions by the
weekend. GFS has colder conditions throughout the week, with milder air
arriving by...

It's now a virtual certainty that today will be the lowest max of 2008 for
here. (2.4C). I wonder how often that has occured on the last day of the
