Default 12Z Model Summary - Monday 08th December

Charts analysed are for T+96 hours - 12Z Friday 12th December 2003
unless stated.

UKMetO:

Low pressure (955mb) lies to the north of Scandinavia, with another
low (980mb) to the west of Iceland. High pressure (1025mb) lies over
southern Iberia, with another high (1020mb) in the western Atlantic.
Winds across the country are mostly moderate southerlies. Many parts
will see some rain moving in from the southwest. Temperatures will be
close to or just above normal in most parts. Beyond cooler and showery
conditions give way to more settled weather as high pressure moves
closer to the southwest of the UK.

Low pressure (975mb) lies over Northern Scandinavia. Another low
(980mb) lies to the south of Iceland in the Atlantic. High pressure
(1040m) lies well to the east of the UK over Russia, and ridges
towards Britain, with another high (1025mb) over Southwestern Iberia.
Winds across the UK are freshening southerlies in many areas. Most
eastern parts will be mainly dry and bright but turning cloudier with
some rain in the west. 850hPa temperatures range from -5C in the
northeast to +8C in the extreme southwest. Forecast 2m temperatures
range from +5C in the north to +12C in the far southwest. Beyond this
conditions remain mostly unsettled with rain or showers, and staying
rather on the mild side.

the Central Atlantic. Winds across the UK are mainly fresh to strong
west/southwesterlies in many areas. Most parts will see rain or
showers. 850hPa temperatures range from -1C in the west to +2C in the
southeast. Temperatures will be close to normal in most places. Beyond
this conditions are cooler and showery for a time.

be close to or just above normal. Beyond this conditions remain
unsettled, and turn colder from the north for a brief time before
turning milder from the Atlantic again as high pressure builds close
to southern Britain.

Low pressure (959mb) lies to the north of Scandinavia, with another
low (996mb) to the west of Iceland. Another low (994mb) lies out in
the Atlantic. High pressure lies over Europe, and ridges across
Britain, with a secondary high (1013mb) lying close to the northwest.
Winds across the UK are mainly light and variable. Most parts will be
mainly dry and bright. Temperatures will be close to normal.

Summary:
Generally a mild and unsettled outlook, with only brief cooler spells
between the low pressure systems. The weekends cold snap predicted by
the GFS model yesterday has now pretty much disappeared.
