Not only was Wednesday the coldest August day (15.5C) since 1999
(15.0C) in Coventry , it was also the wettest day at any time of year in Coventry (40.6mm) since the 20th July 2007, and the wettest August day for six years - so much for 'high summer'!. August has now recorded over 100mm of rain in our region for the second time in three years, confirming its reputation as the wettest month of the year in Coventry, though usually this is a result of summer thunderstorms rather than frontal rain like this year. Steve Jackson Bablake Weather Station Coventry UKwww.bablakeweather.co.uk Although we had a similar amount of rain to you Steve, (43mm in the 24 hours to 09:00 today) being on the 'warm' side of the front in the afternoon made a huge difference. Dewpoint here topped 19C, at one point around 16:00. The dewpoint hit 19.4C at St Ives, in fog! Although very high dewpoints (close to the late summer SST of 17C) are common enough here in August, these are near record values. Back to a more reasonable 15C currently. Still dull, with a few spots of rain. Still, better things to come. Graham Penzance |

Drove to friends in Balsall Common last night, road between Knowle and BC
was awash on our return. We commented how nice and warm the house felt, he had put the heating on!! Continuous rain and heavy drizzle all morning here this morning. Postponed my weekly trip to the Brum fish market till PM. Oh the joys of a bus pass, may not last much longer. JT Dorridge "Steve J" wrote in message ... The autumn has certainly come the CH turned itself on yesterday. Not
only that, my hands felt chilly outside in the rain. Climbed the Meikle Bin (1800 ft) in Central Scotland on Wednesday.
Beautiful day and unbelievable views. To the east, Bass Rock could be seen at 93.4 km and to the west Ailsa Craig at 104.8 km could be seen (distance between Bass Rock and Ailsa Craig 181.4 km). |
