Default Today's model interpretation (8/07/10)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon (GMT) on Monday. Issued
0430z, 8/07/10.

The models are split today. Every model except GFS shows a NW/SE split with
warm conditions in the SE and cooler, wetter conditions in the NW of the UK.
GFS, meanwhile, takes a low much further south than the other runs and leads
to a wet and increasingly cool outlook in the south, with drier conditions
further north.

A col covers the UK, leading to light winds for most. On day 6 southerlies
and SE'lies affect the UK as a low deepens to the west, followed by
southerlies as the low deepens in situ on day 7.

MetO: http://www.wzkarten.de/pics/Rukm1201.gif
The Met Office run brings a ridge over Scotland and Northern Ireland, with
NE'lies elsewhere. A col covers all areas except Northern Ireland on day 6,
with southerlies over Northern Ireland due to a low to the west.

GFS: http://www.wzkarten.de/pics/Rtavn1201.png
NE'lies cover the UK as the result of a low to the SW. The low moves
eastwards over southern England on day 6, with ENE'lies for most as a
result. Day 7 has a col over the UK, with a low to the east.

GEM: http://www.wzkarten.de/pics/Rgem1201.gif
GEM brings westerlies with a ridge over southern England.

JMA: http://www.wzkarten.de/pics/Rjma1201.gif
JMA shows a ridge over England and Wales with light winds as a result.
Elsewhere winds are southerlies.
