I know a man of my age should know better but here goes...
The 0600 Atlantic chart shows a dirty great low between Scotland and Iceland with at least three active looking fronts crossing the country,BUT the weather ,over England at least ,is benign and summerlike. If one is to compare this chart with the thousands of similar ones over the years ,I'd have confidently predicted chilly Atlantic winds ,belts of heavy rain, and generally typical unsettled British weather . So ,question ,why is this lot so different ? http://www.westwind.ch/?link=ukmb,ht...racknell+13 2 RonB |

Not over this bit of England, Ron. Steady moderate rain for the past 3.5 hours, getting close to heavy for the past hour. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. |

Initially there was broad upper ridging across the SE and little upper forcing associated with the frontal zone across England and Wales. Through the morning and afternoon contour heights gradually fall as the ridge transfers east and an area of positive vorticity advection engages the front. This results in a wave like development reinvigorating the slow moving surface front for a time - as some of the more recent imagery shows and Norman has commented on. This process can be followed reasonably well on the 06Z GFS and NAE http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-b...&ARCHIV=0&WMO= http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-b...&ARCHIV=0&WMO= http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-b...&ARCHIV=0&WMO= http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-b...&ARCHIV=0&WMO= Jon. |
