I happened to watch "What Katie did next" last night with my daughters
as it was "about the bad weather dad" Katie Price lives somewhere in Surrey and the prog followed her during the snow they had in January (6 I think). Two "facts" stuck in my mind from the programmes voice over. "The worst snowstorm for the UK in 50 years" "over 1 foot of snow" At best they had around 4-5 inches. They were snowbound for 3 days despite all having 4 wheel drive cars. The biggest irony was that during the time they were, er, snowbound they bemoaned the fact that the press had been "exaggerating stories" about them and "printing lies". You could not make it up but it does highlight the fact that the MO, imho, need to make sure that they clarify weather events and make sure that snow depths, rainfall and historical precedent are made public to avoid distortion (like Philip always does in the ST and WO) And as an aside the widely reported "2 foot of snow at Auchterarder" was most probably 12-13 inches. I went there 1 week after and the snow there was the same as in Aberfeldy (with one week of slow thaw). I imagine it was a guestimate by the BBC reporter at the scene. brian aberfeldy www.aberfeldyweather.com ave min in March so far is -5.1C |
