Default [WR] Hot day in Wishaw

Maximum temperature of exactly 30.0ºC in Wishaw today, the first time since
1995 we've reached the big three-O here and the site record for July.
The temperature had passed 25ºC by 9am, quite incredible - and this on a day
of broken cloud, rather than wall to wall sunshine.
It's only the fourth time I've recorded 30.0ºC here since I began keeping
records in 1993. (The other three occasions were twice in June 95 and once
in Aug 1995). And going back through other local records, it's probably the
warmest July day in North Lanarkshire since 1983.
The dew point was also above 20ºC for a short time late morning, this is
also a site record.
Phew!
Alex.

It felt quite unpleasant.

Lesley was in Gartmore this afternoon where Main Street was flooded after a
violent TS.

Southwest radio reporting that the max today at Eskdalemuir (28.7) was
only a degree
below their all time maximum set in 1976 (records back 100 years).
Given the height of Eskdalemuir (800'), I reckon this equates to about
31 deg in the likes
of Lockerbie or Dumfries.

Indeed. In Moffat the maximum in our (very sheltered and not at all
representative) back garden was 31 with a mercury in glass thermometer
screwed to a north facing wall. I haven't yet offloaded the logger to
see what the Stevenson Screen temperature was. We're at 120 m ASL.

I really don't want a repeat of that - and late last night with windows
wide open we were being invaded by midges too.

Ken.
