REPOST - Power density of the Sun by
kiloVolts[_32_]
Dimensional analysis yields an understanding of the power density of the
Sun. All of the power generated within the Sun is radiated from the
photosphere, whose area scales as the radius of the Sun, which scales as
4*Pi*R^2 while the volume scales as 4/3*Pi*R^3. Hence, the power density of
the Sun per unit volume or per unit mass, scales as 3/R. From a human
perspective, since the radius of the...

Power density of ITER by
kiloVolts[_38_]
ITER see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITER
As a take home exercise I suggest that motivated students of stellar/nuclear
power density extend the dimensional analysis you learned here and calculate
the power density of ITER.
Hints: 1. "the fusion of about 0.5 g of deuterium/tritium mixture in its
approximately 840 m^3 reactor chamber."

Can Obama respond to giant hole in Earth's magnetosphere by 2012?
February 24, 2:11 PM
by Michael Salla, Ph.D., Honolulu Exopolitics Examiner
NASA scientists on December 16, 2008 announced that "THEMIS spacecraft have
discovered a breach in Earth's magnetic field ten times larger than anything
previously thought to exist." NASA's THEMIS mission comprises 5 probes
launched in February 2007 to...

Question about fan-aspirated phychrometer by
Chuck Olson
I bought a Bendix 566 Psychrometer at a flea market about a month back, and
I've been modernizing it with a brushless fan and an LED back light. I'm a
retired EE so I guess I became kind of a nut over this thing. I find the wet
bulb thermometer reading, when the wick is dry, is always about 0.5 deg F
higher than the dry bulb reading after it has been running for a while,
whereas when I just...

Earth Perihelion is the date on which the earth is closest to the sun. That
date changes from year to year. The last Earth Perihelion was January 4,
2009. On that date the radiant energy that the earth received from the Sun
was greater than on any other day of the year. Too bad it is past
