Default Easter and weather

Here in the southeast U.S. there is a widely believed notion that cold
weather or frost conditions will not end until Easter. I've Googled every
way I can think of for info, to no avail. Has anyone heard of this? Is there
any scientific data?
TIA
Joe Arnold
